With Upat, fischer offers a strong secondary brand for fixing solutions, creating additional opportunities to differentiate in the market. In its centenary year, Upat looks back on 100 years of company history while remaining firmly focused on the future.
The company’s origins date back to 4 June 1926: the history of Upat began with the founding of Max Langensiepen KG in Hamburg. “Today, Upat combines 100 years of experience with a modern, market-oriented approach,” says Prof. Klaus Fischer, Owner, Chairman of the Holding Company and Chairman of the Advisory Board of the fischer Group, describing the company’s direction. “Our fastening solutions stand for ease of use, reliable performance and cost-effectiveness.”
Pioneer of the standard anchor and a strong fischer brand
As early as 1929, Upat achieved a milestone with the introduction of the standard anchor. The first standardised, industrially manufactured metal anchor laid the foundation for the industrialisation and large-scale use of fixing technology. To this day, Upat continues to share this innovative spirit with the fixing pioneer fischer. Since launching its patented plastic expansion anchor in 1958, fischer has evolved into a provider of products, system solutions and services covering the entire construction value chain. The company continues to drive innovation in areas such as digitalisation, robotics or sensor anchors.
Upat’s technological milestones include, amongst others, one of the first hammer drills in 1950, the early electric hammer drill introduced in 1965, and the UKA 3 chemical anchor cartridge system from 1963, which at the time opened up new applications in heavy-duty fastening technology. Developments such as the TOP anchor – one of the first self-tapping heavy-duty anchors for the tension zone – further demonstrate the brand’s innovative strength.
In 1993, fischer acquired Upat, which was then Germany’s second-largest manufacturer of fixing technology.
A clear focus on efficiency and market requirements
Within the fischer Group, Upat is positioned as an independent value-for-money brand. In doing so, fischer creates additional flexibility while strengthening the Group’s presence in the price-sensitive market segment. The focus is on clearly structured product ranges for high-volume core applications, ease of installation, high product availability and efficient processes.
100 years of experience, a clear vision for the future
Looking ahead, Upat is committed to further strengthening its position in the professional market. “We are focusing on scalable product ranges, digital services and product data, as well as modern, target-group-oriented communication,” says Prof. Klaus Fischer. “Our goal remains clear: to combine 100 years of experience and proven quality with a future consistently focused on efficiency and customer benefit.”
