Large solar inverters are increasingly posing challenges for PV system installers. A lack of space indoors and fire safety regulations call for practical, external solutions. With the FSIS Solar Inverter Shelter, fixing specialist fischer enables the safe, easy-to-install mounting of solar inverters directly on flat roofs or on load-bearing surfaces – for example, in ground-mounted systems, PV façades or industrial PV carports.
The solar industry is growing rapidly, and with it the demands on the installation of high-performance solar inverters. Traditional indoor installation sites quickly reach their spatial limits – particularly with larger PV systems. Due to a lack of space within buildings and fire safety requirements, outdoor installations are increasingly becoming the standard solution.
Flexible system solution for outdoor installation
The FSIS Solar Inverter Shelter complete canopy kit is specifically designed for high-performance solar inverter units, such as two units each with a capacity of 125 kWp. The solution is based on a ballast-loaded steel frame of fischer installation systems. The system includes, among other things, flat-roof feet with a large base, rails, rail connectors and a protective canopy. All components are designed for long-term outdoor use and are either hot-dip galvanised (e.g. rails, connectors), zinc-flake coated or made of A2 stainless steel (rail connectors). The canopy roof is made of high-quality steel with a ZM310 coating. The flat roof feet are made from the glass-fibre-reinforced plastic PP-HD GF 30% and prevent damage to the roof structure. They are fitted with a protective fleece that prevents plasticiser migration in PVC membrane roofs.
The system with an extra-wide canopy roof enables the safe, standard-compliant and weather-protected installation of technical equipment outside the building. At the same time, the outdoor installation improves ventilation and fire protection for the solar inverters. Maintenance and inspection are also easier. The large installation area of up to 1.65 m also allows for the use of larger equipment as well as additional applications, such as for lightning protection.
Simple installation, high flexibility
The pre-assembled system with push-through connectors ensures quick and easy installation. Assembly can be carried out by a single person and requires only an impact wrench with a 17 mm socket. Standard concrete slabs measuring 40 x 40 cm can be used for ballasting. The system meets the fire safety requirements for the solar inverter base. It should be noted that: The installation of two solar inverters back-to-back is only permitted if this installation method has been approved by the respective manufacturer. The specifications in the installation and assembly instructions, as well as standards such as DIN VDE 0100-712 (German standard), are decisive.
