Kaohsiung is Taiwan's second-largest city measured by its approximately 1.5 million inhabitants. The metropolis has gained another attraction with its new ‘Farglory - THE ONE’ skyscraper. The 68-storey structure towers at a height of 268 metres, making the skyscraper the tallest residential building in the Taiwanese metropolis and the sixth tallest in Asia. The skyscraper provides new space over a building area of 4656 square metres. ‘Farglory - THE ONE’ contains apartments, a private club and an InterContinental Hotel with 253 rooms, three restaurants and two banquet halls over a space of around 166,200 square metres.

The skyscraper was successfully completed during its construction phase between 2015 and 2018 and was designed by the Taiwanese architecture firm C.Y. Lee & Partners. The hotel will open its doors to guests in 2021. The skyscraper was named after the Taiwanese Farglory Group, the architecture and construction firm responsible for the project. The Group consists of multiple corporate divisions that offer various services for modern society.

The rear-ventilated curtain wall facade is an important project component. It was planned and executed by the curtain wall consultancy firm ORIGIN Design & Engineering Co., LTD. from Taiwan and the Taiwanese facade construction specialist Wan Shin Co. The building envelope was clad with natural stone panels made of the Silver Star granite from India and G603 granite from China, each measuring 1700 x 803 x 30 millimetres. The facade panels were supplied and processed by the Taiwanese Tung Kung Engineering Co. Around 130,000 fischer FZP II Zykon panel anchors of the 13x24.5 M8/SO/15.5 AL variant securely anchor the granite panels to the substructure and the support structure, a steel construction with reinforced concrete. “The professional customer consultation and support provided by our Taiwan-ese importer Fuhau Engineering Corporation Ltd. was crucial towards being commissioned with the project”, emphasises Ralf Weber, Market Manager facade systems for the fischer Group of Companies. “We have been working in close cooperation with our partner in Taiwan since 2001. With their range of products and services, they specialise in important architectural aspects, such as high-quality facade and interior construction”.

The advantages of fischer’s facade systems came into play during the project. “Our undercut anchors achieve higher load values than alternative solutions such as edge fastenings”, Ralf Weber says. The FZP II Zykon panel anchors enable this through form-fit installation without expansion pressure in the conical undercut drill holes. “There are further structural benefits that result from the positioning of the undercut anchors in the so-called 1/5 point of the facade panels”, Weber adds. “The FZP II thereby achieve lower slab bending moments and higher load-bearing capacities. This allowed thinner and larger facade panels to be installed during construction of the ‘Farglory - THE ONE’ skyscraper and other projects”. The economic efficiency is another advantage, as fischer’s all-in-one curtain wall solutions make installation faster while reducing construction time and project costs. “Our facade systems also offer a long service life and low maintenance costs, which improves the stability of modern, energy-optimised building envelopes while ultimately benefitting the environment”, Weber adds.
